MEANING OF Gi·NN·AA

Gi — THE WOMAN

Just Gi. A woman with a story, an identity, and a voice that fought hard to be heard.

NN — NO NAME

In family court, women can feel stripped of their individuality, reduced to a case number or an anonymous designation — N.N. (No Name).

AA — ACRONYMS & LABELS

A reminder of how easily women can become defined by labels, allegations, and abbreviations rather than understood as individuals.

FAMILY-COURT REFORM MATTERS

Family stability deserves thoughtful attention.

Every case deserves careful, individualized consideration.

No woman should be reduced to an allegation, case number, or label.

Courts should encourage dialogue, and appropriate solutions.

WHAT WE WANT TO SEE CHANGE

Encourage individualized screening to understand the circumstances behind every case.

Promote mediation and dialogue, helping families find solutions whenever possible.

Recognize individual circumstances, rights, safety, and vulnerability.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

SEE THE WOMAN. UNDERSTAND HER STORY. CHANGE THE OUTCOME.

About Gi·NN·AA

Founded by Ginna Arevalo, whose background includes more than 15 years in law, litigation, business, and public policy, with experience at U.S. law firms, the United Nations, the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. She holds a J.D. from Florida A&M University College of Law, Florida, and an LL.B. from Universidad de La Sabana, Colombia. Years of legal education taught theory, but little prepared a lawyer for the realities of family court and incarceration. Firsthand experience, hearing and witnessing women’s stories, revealed how much more needs to be understood. One realization became clear: We can do better.

Gi·NN·AA is a national initiative seeking to advance family-court reform across the United States through dialogue, research, practical policy proposals, and collaboration with legal professionals, healthcare experts, policymakers, and communities. Currently in development and welcoming national collaboration opportunities.
